Latest News . . .
- Rehearsals for the new concert season are well underway
- The starter band met for the first time on Wednesday 10th July with a mixture of 11 adults and children turning up looking to learn to play. Everyone had a good time and went off home instruments in hand to enjoy practicing ready for next week!
- National Concert band Festival - the band earned a creditable Bronze Medal at Sundays festival. This being the first occassion we have entered this event we were entering the unknown and were looking to learn a little about ourselves and also the event itself. Stuart was approached by one of the judges immediately after the event who was very complimentary.
- Whitchurch Civic Centre, 5th August 2006 - Apologies from the band for anyone who turned up to listen to us here. The band turned up ready to play only to be informed by the Town Council that we would not be allowed to do so as they no longer had a licence for such events. We would have loved to have been able to fulfil the engagement but once again, although it was not due to any fault of ours, many apologies.
- 2008 Tour to Germany - viability of the tour is currently being considered by the band committee. Quotations for transport and accommodation have been requested. Additionally our MD and Chairperson met representatives from Bischofsheim at a recent CANTA 'hog roast' evening and paved the way for the visit
- Learner Group - we are keen to progress this group as soon as possible and will be releasing details to the local press shortly. Before doing so we are attempting to build up a stock of as many instruments as possble so that we can then, hopefully, be in a position to help everyone that joins to play the instrument of their choice. The American method of teaching as a band will be used with lessons being given by Stewart and other members of the band free of charge. Players will progress to the main band when they reach the required standard (at Stewart's discretion!). This learner group will not be a 'junior' band and it will not undertake any concert engagements.
